AARP Tax-Aide is a program of the AARP Foundation and is offered in conjunction with the IRS. The program's mission is to provide high quality free income tax assistance and tax form preparation to low- and moderate-income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older.
To qualify as an AARP Tax-Aide Counselor, a volunteer must be certified annually by passing an IRS certification test. The IRS provides training and resource materials to assist the volunteer in preparation for the certification test. Volunteers must have computer skills to prepare tax returns using tax preparation software and submitting returns via e-file.
The IRS and State of Minnesota provide excellent resource materials to assist the volunteer in preparing tax returns and property tax returns for the taxpayers. Training of volunteers is also provided locally.
