UW-River Falls investigating threat against minorities

Local police and campus authorities are looking into a threat against minorities at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

A student using a restroom in the university's library on Sunday noticed a message scrawled on a wall, said UW-RF Media Relations Director Kevin Harter. He said the message directly threatened the campus' black and Asian populations.

Harter said campus police and city police are investigating the threat, which purports to take place on Monday.

"Clearly we need to take it seriously, and we are," Harter said Wednesday.

He said police patrols will be stepped up on Monday, and that Pierce and St. Croix sheriff's departments have been alerted to the threat.

No suspects have been identified, Harter said. The student body has been notified and updated on the threat.

"We condemn such cowardly and ignorant actions and reaffirm our commitment to creating and fostering a diverse and inclusive campus culture," UW-RF Chancellor Dean Van Galen said.
