Wacouta man extinguishes house fire at his own home
A Wacouta man had already extinguished flames on his house Monday by the time firefighters arrived.
Firefighters were called at 3:13 p.m. to the William Futrell residence on Lakeview Avenue. Red Wing Fire Chief Tom Schneider said Futrell had put out the fire at the residence using a garden hose. The fire appeared to have started on a deck where it met with house siding near a flowerpot. Schneider said the cause was undetermined. However, he said a highly rare possibility could have been spontaneous combustion of potting soil.
Firefighters cleared the house of any possible kindling and salvaged the remains.
