Teen will serve probation at secure children's facility
The former Red Wing High School student who told police she planned to kill a classmate when she stabbed him in November will spend more than four years at a secure children's home.
First District Court Judge Thomas Bibus on Wednesday sentenced Carissa Ann Bordthauser to serve out a probationary period at the St. Cloud Catholic Charities Children's Home. She must remain there until her 21st birthday, Bibus ordered.
Bordthauser pleaded guilty in March to second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, a charge that carries a 21-month prison sentence. Prosecutors dropped first-degree attempted murder charges as part of a plea deal.
Under the agreement, the 21-month prison term will be commuted -- provided Bordthauser successfully completes terms of her probation.
More on what the judge told Bordthauser during the hearing is in Thursday's print edition of the Republican Eagle.
