School Board OKs preliminary levy
Red Wing School Board members on Monday approved an increase to the district's preliminary levy.
Due to last week's passage of a five-year operating referendum, the state has not completed calculations on what the 2009 levy will be. School Board members passed the maximum allowable levy -- about $9.35 million or a 21 percent increase, according to Finance Director Brad Johnson -- which can be reduced. The levy will be finalized in December.
The district's Finance Committee will review levy funding in coming weeks, Supt. Stan Slessor said.
School Board Chairman Paul Kramp issued mild concern that state dollars are not finalized.
"It's kind of putting the cart before the horse," he said.
