Valerie Gehn, whose vision of "Peace Around the World" was the top entry in the local and Southeastern Minnesota District peace poster contests, captured third-place honors in the multi-district competition including Manitoba and western Ontario in Canada as well as all of Minnesota.
The contest is sponsored by Lions Club International. Locally, the Red Wing Lions and Twin Bluff Middle School worked together, and art teacher Jude Rooney coordinated more than 250 entries at the community level last fall.
Twelve-year-old Gehn, whose poster depicts people of many colors raising their arms up to the globe, then competed against winning entries from clubs throughout southeastern Minnesota. As winner there, she advanced to the multi-district level, which encompasses some 680 Lions Clubs, spokesmen said.
