Area track teams send qualifiers to sectionals

AMERY, Wis. -- The WIAA regional track and field meets took place all over Wisconsin on Monday and the area produced several qualifiers for sectional meets coming up Thursday.

The top four finishers in each event qualify for sectionals.

Ellsworth will have a huge contingent at the girls Division 2 sectional in Colby, Wis. They will be led by Chelsea Hanson, who was first in the 400-meter dash in 59.54 seconds, and Amanda Samuel, who won the 3,200 in 12:03.34. The 1,600 relay also won in 4:08.74, as did the 3,200 relay in 9:48.84.

Also qualifying for the Panthers were Carlie Melstrom, third in the 400 and fourth in the triple jump; Macy Olson, third in the 800; Morgan Place, second in the 3,200 and fourth in the 1,600; Krissa Bushinski, fourth in the 3,200; Rachel Langer, second in the 300 low hurdles and fourth in the high jump; Kylie Bjorkman, second in the high jump; Megan Rinke, fourth in the pole vault; Tiffany Riester, third in the shot put, Michelle Olson, fourth in the shot put and Amber Nugent, second in the discus. As a team, Ellsworth finished second to Somerset.

The Ellsworth boys will have one sectional qualifier. Nick Niedfeldt placed fourth in the 400.

Complete results for Plum City and Pepin sectional qualifiers were not available at press time.
