Take the pledge to park and walk downtown

By Live Healthy Red Wing

Don't let downtown construction sour your summer.

Sweeten it up with an invigorating walk through our historic downtown, while doing your shopping. Take the pledge to Park & Walk, and follow posted signs to free parking spots. Then, mark how many steps it takes you to get from your parking spot to your destination. There will be signs throughout downtown with attached markers for everyone to use.

Let's see how many steps we can take downtown this summer.

Good things can come from a break in routine. By walking, you'll be able to appreciate the little details that make downtown Red Wing so special: the well-kept flower baskets, the historic feel of the buildings, and of course, the high number of quality, local businesses that keep downtown thriving.

"Picture a downtown teeming with people of all ages walking and strolling along our sidewalks," said Megan Tsui, Downtown Main Street executive director. "This is what a vibrant downtown looks like. We're excited to partner with Live Healthy Red Wing on this program to encourage everyone to park and walk in beautiful downtown Red Wing."

Of course, walking helps you be a little bit healthier, too. By walking more throughout the day, you'll burn a few extra calories, see more of Red Wing and more importantly, feel better.

Check out Live Healthy Red Wing's free walking maps online or in downtown businesses to plan out your route.

There are three parking ramps downtown, with 735 available spots. For a parking ramp list, walking maps and more information go online to https://livehealthyredwing.org/recreation-maps.

Park & Walk is sponsored by Downtown Main Street and Live Healthy Red Wing.
