Get ready to 'Ramble' in Red Wing
Are you ready to get active and enjoy the outdoors this summer? Then it's time to Get Ready to Ramble. Mayo Clinic Health System and Red Wing Family YMCA encourage families to get active together by participating in Get Ready to Ramble. This free nine-week program prepares participants of all ages for the River City Ramble, a 5K walk/run, two-mile walk and a kids' fun run on Saturday, Aug. 4, in Red Wing.
Mayo Clinic Health System athletic trainer Kathy Sheehan and Red Wing YMCA fitness instructor Steve Cvek will provide support and guidance, whether to get started or improve performance.
The kickoffs for Get Ready to Ramble are 11:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. Monday, June 4, in the Red Wing Central Park Bandshell. Each week thereafter, runners- only group will meet 11:30 a.m. and a group for both runners and walkers will meet at 5:15 p.m. The weekly training sessions will run each Monday for the following nine weeks. Guest speakers will offer tips for training at the start of every 5:15 p.m. session with group training for walkers and runners to follow.
"This program helps supports you and your family to participate in the walk or run at the River City Ramble on Aug. 4," said Dr. Brian Whited, president and CEO of Mayo Clinic Health System in Cannon Falls, Lake City and Red Wing. "Being active helps you manage your own physical and mental health."
The River City Ramble, a part of Red Wing River City Days, is an annual event sponsored by Mayo Clinic Health System and Red Wing Family YMCA. The River City Ramble is a fundraiser that supports youth scholarships for Red Wing Family YMCA, allowing children the opportunity to participate in healthy activities throughout the year.
