Faith briefs for April 1, 2017

Ecumenical worship is at Methodist Church

Churches Around the Park will gather for ecumenical worship and a meal Wednesday, April 5, at First United Methodist Church. Pastor Kristen Schlauderaff of St. Paul's Lutheran Church is preaching on "Doubt and Faith."

The theme this year is "Words of Faith." Worship using Holden Evening Prayer will begin at 5 p.m. Supper will be at 6 p.m.

ELCA women's program focuses on religious similarities

The Cannon River Conference Women of the ELCA will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 Second Ave., Wanamingo.

Dr. Irshad Jafri will present "The Similarities Between Islam, Judaism and Christianity." The morning also will feature music therapist Cora Cromer.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $12, including lunch.

Eat at a Community Meal

The Community Meal/Sunday Supper will be served three times in April at First United Methodist Church. The schedule is Sunday April 9 by First Presbyterian Church, April 16 by First United Methodist Church, and April 23 by First Covenant Church. All meals are served at 5 p.m. and are free and open to all.

Series on same-gender issues concluding

Luther Seminary New Testament Professor David Fredrickson will present "Scriptures and Same-Gender Relationships" at 10:45 a.m. March 26 at First United Methodist Church. This will be the final class session in this series of Talking with Neighbors.

On April 2, the church begin a four-week series on Passionate Spirituality led by two co-leaders of the CloisterSeminars, Almut Furchert and Chuck Huff. Both are doctoral-level trained academics and teachers.

Do handwork to help others

People who knit or crochet are invited to help make prayer shawls. They are blessed in prayer and made available to those who need healing and encouragement.

Groups will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at 1845 Bohmbach Drive and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth.

First Lutheran's Quilting Group will meet at 1 p.m. April 12 and 26 in the Old Fellowship Hall.

Bonhoeffer group to meet

The Bonhoeffer Society of Red Wing will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at First Covenant Church.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was one of the first Germans to recognize and resist Adolph Hitler's capacity for evil. Bonhoeffer wrote extensively during those years. The Bonhoeffer Society of Red Wing has been discussing those writings in chronological order for the past four years. This year the group is building on that foundation to discuss a wide variety of topics of contemporary interest, such as the development of the American character and ideals, the relation between church and state in the U.S., and the role of the church in helping to shape the guiding principles of a democracy

Meetings are open to anyone.

Faith in Action seeks drivers

Faith in Action is looking for volunteers to drive individuals to various appointments. If you are interested in exploring this opportunity, call 651-327-2400. The office is located at 1407 W. Fourth St.
