Mighty middle school planners

Rodgers and his wife, June, have three children: Jordan (16), Hannah (13) and Tyler (9).

Rallying around their classmate, eighth-grade friends of Hannah put forth the idea of an event to support the family at an end-of-the-year sleepover.

Over the summer, they gained experience in marketing, writing grants and coordinating with local entities to plan the event.

The girls said that three laps around the high school will complete the 5K course.

They encourage community members to attend to walk, run, or to be present for support “Team Rodge.”

Donations also can be made out to Youth Outreach, the fiscal agent of the event. The address for Youth Outreach, 410 Guernsey Lane, Red Wing, MN 55066.

Other local sponsors include Prairie Island Indian Community, Red Wing Shoe Co., Red Wing Community Education and Recreation and the Pottery Place.
