West's latest 'Elsewhere' novel released July 16

Red Wing author Jacqueline West's latest book will be released July 16.

"The Books of Elsewhere, Volume Four: The Strangers" will be in bookstores across the country, joining the first three books in the middle-grade fantasy series that has received many awards and been translated into 11 languages.

To celebrate the release, West will appear at a number of local events:

• Summer Celebration of the Arts, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sat. July 13, Anderson Center, Red Wing

• Book release party, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sat. July 20, Karma Gifts, 204 North Main St., River Falls

• Reading and signing, Sat. July 27, Valley Bookseller, 217 Main St., Stillwater

West will have a limited number of pre-release copies of the novel at the Summer Celebration of the Arts to sign and sell, along with copies of the other "Elsewhere" books.

Bookworms to meet

The Bookworms Book Club will meet 6 p.m. Monday July 15 at Sol De Mexico, Cannon Falls. People will discuss "A Dog's Purpose" by W. Bruce Cameron.

Hot diggity, it's time for kids

Red Wing Public Library continues its summer story times and activities next week for children.

Incoming second- through sixth-grade students will have a program with the Environmental Learning Center at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday July 9.

Family story time's theme will be "Hot Diggity Dog" at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday July 10. The program will be repeated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday for child care story time.

The Underdog Who Conquered a Sport, Saved a Marriage and Championed Pit Bulls -- One Flying Disc at a Time" by Jim Gorant.
