Community Meal will be served twice in January

The Community Meal/Sunday Supper will be served twice this month. This is a full meal prepared and served free of charge and open to everyone.

Meals will be served at 5 p.m. Sunday Jan. 11 and 25 at First United Methodist Church, 403 East Ave.

Local congregations and organizations take turns preparing the food.

GriefShare will begin 12-week run Jan. 12

GriefShare, a grief recovery seminar and support group, will meet Mondays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. starting Jan. 12 at the Church of St. Joseph. The meetings will continue through March.

People welcome to knit, crochet prayer shawls

People who knit or crochet are invited to help make prayer shawls. They are blessed in prayer and made available to those who need healing and encouragement.

Groups will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday Jan. 8 at 1845 Bohmbach Drive; 5:30 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 20 at English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth; and 5:30 p.m. Thursday Jan. 15 at First Lutheran Church, Red Wing.

Faith in Action seeks drivers

Faith in Action is looking for volunteers to drive individuals to various appointments. If you are interested in exploring this opportunity, call 651-327-2400. The office is located at 1407 W. Fourth St.

Bonhoeffer Society will hold monthly meeting

The Bonhoeffer Society of Red Wing will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday Jan. 10 at First Covenant Church. Open to anyone, the group discusses his life and writings.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer was one of the first Germans to recognize and resist Adolph Hitler’s capacity for evil. The Nazis hanged Bonhoeffer just before the end of World War II.

By studying his historical and theological insights, people can gain a better understanding of America’s current political climate dominated by extremist views, society organizers said.
