Episcopal Church holds special worship service

Christ Episcopal Church will offer an outdoor worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday Aug. 3 on the front lawn of the church. The service will feature acoustic music performed by Kiki and Steve Gheen. All are invited to be part of the special service during the River City Days weekend.

First Presbyterian annual picnic is Wednesday

First Presbyterian Church of Red Wing will hold its all-church picnic at 5 p.m. Aug. 6 in the Colvill Park picnic shelter No. 5. Bring a dish to share and table service. Hot dogs, buns, condiments, lemonade and ice water will be provided.

People who have lawn games are invited to bring them. Lawn chairs are optional. The picnic will wrap up in time for the 7 p.m. blues concert in Central Park.

Praise and Worship concert

New Life United Pentecostal Church, 325 Plum St., will hold a concert at 6 p.m. Sunday Aug. 10 featuring evangelist and musican Freddie Combs. He was a contestant on The X Factor.

Pioneer Day Festival

St. Paul's Episcopal Church of rural Goodhue will hold its second Pioneer Day Festival 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday Aug. 9. A hymn sing will follow.

There will be historical displays, demonstrations of pioneer crafts, commemoration of Civil War veterans buried in the cemetery, food and music. The long-abandoned church is being restored by descendants of the Rev. Samuel Chandler, a prominent early Goodhue County pioneer.

First Congregational Church United Church in Christ in Cannon Falls will hold an outdoor worship service 9:30 a.m. Sunday Aug. 10 at Riverside Park.

Christian Woman's Connection

River Valley Christian Woman's Connection, Monday Aug. 11., 10:30-noon at the St. James Hotel. Karen Langstraat will speak about "Freedom Isn't Always Free!" Call Cathy at 651-388-3179 by Aug. 6 for reservations.

Interfaith group helps others

Faith in Action in Red Wing is an interfaith volunteer program serving seniors and those in distressed circumstances. The organization’s goal is to help individuals in the community remain independent.

All services are provided by caring volunteers, with no charge to the recipient. Services include local transportation, out-of-town transportation for medical purposes, friendly visiting, library books, respite care and caregiver support group.
