Bonhoeffer Society wrapping up season

The Bonhoeffer Society of Red Wing will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday May 10 at Christ Episcopal Church. Open to anyone, the group discusses his life and writings.

Bonhoeffer was one of the first Germans to recognize and resist Adolph Hitler’s capacity for evil. The Nazis hanged Bonhoeffer just before the end of World War II.

By studying his historical and theological insights, people can gain a better understanding of America’s current political climate dominated by extremist views, society organizers said.

This is the final meeting of the season. The group reconvenes in September.

Sunday supper will be served

Sunday Supper/Loaves and Fishes is a full meal prepared and served free of charge and open to everyone. It is being served at 5 p.m. Sundays May 4, 11 and 18 at First United Methodist Church, 403 East Ave.

Faith in Action to hold fundraiser

Faith in Action of Red Wing will hold its fourth annual movie fundraiser May 15 at the Sheldon Theatre. The non-profit will show “Field of Dreams,” starring Kevin Costner.

Tickets are $20 and include the 5:30 p.m. social hour. A brief skit at 7 p.m. will precede the film.

First communion planned at First Lutheran

Fourth-graders at First Lutheran Church spent Lent preparing for their first communion. They had lessons every Sunday. They will receive their first communion at the 9:30 a.m. May 4 service.

Help create prayer shawls

People who knit or crochet are invited to help make prayer shawls. They are blessed in prayer and made available to those who need healing and encouragement.

Groups will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday May 8 at 1845 Bohmbach Drive; 5:30 p.m. Tuesday May 20 at English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth; and 5:30 p.m. Thursday May 15 at First Lutheran Church, Red Wing.

Join Zion Covenant to Unleash Hope

Zion Covenant Church in Ellsworth will hold part 2 of “Unleash Hope,” a seven-week teaching series based on the book “The Hope Quotient” by Ray Johnston.

Hope is more than a feeling, leaders said, it’s the byproduct of seven key factors. Factor 2 is raise your expectations.

The session will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday at Zion Covenant Church.
