Centering Prayer meeting planned

Join the United in Centering Prayer meeting Saturday March 15 at the Villa Maria, Frontenac. During the morning there will be a period of prayer followed by a DVD presentation by Father Thomas Keating and discussion.

Centering Prayer groups throughout the world gather in an annual global experience of fellowship. Centering prayer is a form of Christian meditation.

The gathering starts at 8:45 a.m. with coffee and concludes at noon.

Vasa has community dinner

The monthly Vasa community free dinner will be 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday March 12. The entrée is meatloaf. Call Vasa Lutheran Church at 651-258-4327 for more information.

Youth bell choir forms

Youths in grades 8–12 are invited to join the newly formed youth bell choir that will be practicing and performing at First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing. Practice is every Tuesday March 4 to May 13 from 5:15 to 6 p.m. The first performance is 10:30 a.m. May 18.

St. Patrick’s Day meal set in Miesville

The Church of St. Joseph in Miesville will hold its annual corned beef and cabbage dinner 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday March 16. The menu includes potatoes, homemade Irish soda bread and dessert bars. Wine and green beer is available for purchase.

Bring the entire family, organizers said. There will be hotdogs and chips are available for wee lads and lassies.

A silent auction featuring unique items will be open until 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12, under 6 are free. Discounted advance tickets are available.

Alpha returning to Ellsworth

Zion Covenant Church in Ellsworth will begin the Alpha video course at 5:15 p.m. Sunday March 16. The nondenominational study is designed for “already convinced” Christians wanting to go deeper in their faith or the “seeker” who wants to know more about what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

The course is based on a 12-week large group video presentation and begins with a meal. Participants break into small groups to raise questions and discuss the evening’s topic.

Topics address “Who is Jesus?” “Why did Jesus Die?” “How can we have Faith?” “Why and How do I Pray?” “Why and How should I read the Bible?” “How does God guide us?” “How can I Resist Temptation?” “Does God Heal Today?”

Deanery women’s group meets

South East Deanery Council of Catholic Women will hold Day of Recollection Tuesday March 18 at St. Pius V Catholic Church, Cannon Falls.

The event will start at 9:30 a.m. in the lower level with registration and coffee. Father Dempsey from St. Dominic's Church of Northfield, Minn., will speak at 10 a.m. about healing.

Rosary will start at 10:45 a.m., followed by Mass. Lunch will be served in the lower level following mass. An offering will be taken for the lunch.

St. Pius V has a new elevator and handicap restroom located on the south side entrance.
