Branches Band plays at St. John's Church

Branches Band travels all over the United States and Canada and serves congregations by offering Christian concerts, assisting with worship and developing music resources.

On Sunday Sept. 15, the band will play at 8 a.m. in St. John's Church, 421 East Ave., and 10:30 a.m. in Central Park,.

A potluck picnic will follow. Bring lawn chairs, plates and utensils.

Marriage sermon series begins

Starting this Sunday, Pastor Steve Kurtzahn of St. John's Lutheran, Frontenac, and Immanuel of West Florence will present a series of five sermons on Christian marriage. Topics are: Sept. 15 — Marriage as God's institution and not a human custom; Sept. 22 — What God's word says about divorce; Sept. 29 — The relationship of husband and wife in Christ; Oct. 6 - The three blessings of marriage; and Oct. 13 - What God says about finding a spouse.

Supper to be served

Sunday Supper/Loaves and Fishes is a full meal prepared and served free of charge and open to everyone. It is being served at 5 p.m. Sunday Sept. 15 at First United Methodist Church, 403 East Ave.

Widows Speak meets

The Widows Speak group will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 18 at First Lutheran Church, Lake City. All widows are welcome to join.

ELCA women gather

Southeastern Minnesota Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church will gather Saturday Sept. 21 at Grace Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The convention theme will be "Celebration of Many Generations: Past, Present and Future" and the event will run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kimberly Schletty from Mission 21 will give the keynote address. Pastor Tammy Dahlvang will lead the Bible study. Registration is $25 and is due Sept. 15. Sign up at First Lutheran, St. Paul's, United or another ELCA congregation.

Fringe raising funds

The Fringe Group will hold a fundraiser 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 18 at CherryBerry. Proceeds will go toward a mission trip.

Parish nurse available

The parish nurse at English Lutheran Church, Ellsworth, will be available from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Sunday Sept. 15 in the downstairs front entrance. Through this ministry people may have blood pressure and heart rate checks as well as receive health information.

Sermons in Shorts

Sermons in Shorts is an outreach of English Lutheran Church and will meet at 4 p.m. Sept. 15 at East End Park, Ellsworth. Food, fly rods and fellowship are planned. The message this month is "Mastering Your Money: Living Worry-free."

Build a house

First Lutheran Church, Red Wing, will provide a work team from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 18 at the Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity house under construction at 600 St. Clair St., Cannon Falls. Volunteers will car pool at 3:15 p.m. from the church. Contact coordinator Neal Topliff at 651-388-9311 ext. 11.
