First Lutheran plans picnic at Colvill

First Lutheran Church will hold its annual

congregational picnic Sunday Aug. 25 at Colvill Park. The potluck will follow the 9:30 a.m. worship service at the church.

Sunday supper will be served

Sunday Supper/Loaves and Fishes is a full meal prepared and served free of charge and open to everyone. It is being served at 5 p.m. Sunday Aug. 25 at the First United Methodist Church, 403 East Ave.

Sacred music offered at worship, in concert

Baritone Charles Johnson will sing at the 8 a.m. worship Sunday Aug. 25 at United Lutheran Church. He also will present at concert at 7 p.m., and a reception will follow.

Johnson, accompanied by keyboardist Dale Niehaus, will present powerful renditions of scripture combined with music, organizers said. He is sponsored by Music Serving the Word Ministries.

Youth House reopens as school nears

English Lutheran Church's Youth House in Ellsworth will be open 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 28. All middle and high school youths are welcome to hang out with friends before school starts.

Beginning Sept. 4, regular hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays for middle school students and 3 to 5 p.m. Thursdays for high school students.

Share the bounty

Are you swamped with beans, zucchini and tomatoes from your garden? Several area churches are collecting extra bounty and passing the produce on to local food shelves.

People whose congregations aren't coordinating an effort may take items to a food shelf. Call for drop-off hours.

Youth Day is Sept. 21

Archdiocesan Youth Day will be Sept. 21 at Holy Family High School, Victoria, Minn. This is a special event just for high school age youth. Spend the day with Archbishop John Nienstedt, David Rinaldi and Sean Forrest, an international Catholic speaker, performing artist, author and retreat leader.

St. Pius V holds fall festival

St. Pius V Parish in Cannon Falls will hold its Annual Fall Festival Sept. 15. A polka mass by the Jim Busta Band starts at 10 a.m. An outdoor hog roast will follow from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Other activities include bingo, games and a silent auction featuring items including vacations in Hawaii and San Antonio, Texas.
