Local wines to be featured at Winter Carnival

Officials at Cannon River Winery are pretty iced about the Saint Paul Winter Carnival. The Cannon Falls business has created two wines as the carnival's official wine producer: first Winter Ice and now Vulcans' Revenge.

"We're really excited. It's definitely a cool partnership that we're glad we're a part of," marketing manager Bergit Nerheim said.

Winter Ice is a sweet wine, while Vulcans' Revenge is a hearty wine with a fiery kick. Both will be available at select days and times: 5 to 9 p.m. Jan. 26, 3 to 9 p.m. Jan. 27, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 28, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 29, 4 to 9 p.m. Jan. 31, 3 to 9 p.m. Feb. 3, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 4 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 5.

"We will be serving wine by the glass during the carnival at the ice bar located in Rice Park," Nerheim said.

The winery's partnership with the Saint Paul Winter Carnival started last year when Winter Ice was created to celebrate the celebration's 125th anniversary. This year the Vulcans approached the winery and asked to have a wine made especially for them in celebration of Vulcanus Rex LXXV.
