Bloodmobile coming to area

The American Red Cross will offer area residents a half dozen opportunities to give blood in the next 14 days. These include:

Cannon Falls — 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29, Cannon Falls Government Center, 918 River Road.

Lake City — 1 to 7 p.m. Nov. 5 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at United Methodist Church, 213 N. Oak St.

Red Wing — noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 3 at Hiawatha Valley Baptist Church, 27675 271st St.; 1 to 7 p.m. Nov. 5 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 320 West Ave.; noon to  6 p.m. Nov. 12 at the YMCA, 434 Main St.

Welch — noon to 6 p.m. Nov. 11 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 24036 County 7 Blvd.

November Home Study leader training

The Goodhue County Extension Home Study’s November leader training topic is “Stress Management.” Michelle Hoffman, a certified yoga therapist with Mayo Clinic Health System, will lead the program at 1:30 p.m. Monday Nov. 2 at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church along Highway 19 east of Cannon Falls.

Donate some winter gear

HOPE Coalition is looking for donations of new or gently used winter clothing.

Items the group needs includes adult women’s jackets and coats, sixes 1X to 3X, and kids’ jackets, snow pants, hats, warm socks, weather-proof gloves and winter boats.

Volunteer to play records

Local nursing and assisted living homes are looking for volunteers to play records for residents.

Training to operate the stereo equipment will be provided.

Volunteer valets sought

Mayo Clinic Health System in Red Wing is looking for volunteers to provide valet parking services to hospital and clinic patients.

The service is offered Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one four-hour shift per month.

Interested volunteers must have a valid driver’s license, undergo a background and motor vehicle check, by physically capable of walking a short distance and be able to get in and out of a vehicle with ease.

Art, musical gala set for SoundStrings

SoundStrings is hosting a gala and silent art auction on Saturday Nov. 7 at Hobgoblin Music.

The art auction begins at 6:15 p.m. and closes at 8:45 p.m. SoundStrings students will perform at 6:30 p.m. and a concert from the Hotflashes begins at 7 p.m.

The event is $25 per person, which includes a dessert bar from area chefs. Wine will be available for purchase.

Chili Cook-off is Thursday

United Way of Goodhue, Wabasha and Pierce Counties will hold the Chili Cook-off 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday Oct. 29 at Treasure Island Resort & Casino. People may sample dozens of chili samples from chefs, businesses and nonprofits who are competing for bragging rights and to benefit the community.

Tickets are $5 and available at the door and at the United Way office. Children age 5 and under eat for free. Treasure Island will provide its signature cornbread, organizers said, and beverages will be available for purchase.

Proceeds benefit United Way-sponsored organizations. Expect to hear announcements about the annual fundraising campaign, which is coming to a close.

Vasa plans pancake breakfast

Vasa Historical Museum is hosting a Swedish pancake breakfast 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Vasa Lutheran Center, Highway 19 and County Road 7.

A free-will donation will be accepted at the door.

Funds will help with the new steps and siding on the Vasa Historical Museum.
