Spotlight: Red Wing Central Park Bandshell
Expect a big sound when Generation II Big Band plays an outdoor concert of swinging classics 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, in Red Wing's Central Park.
People who swayed to the former Club Sheldon events of a decade ago may want to get up and dance again. Fans of the Concerts in the Park series also will remember Generation II, which specializes in the big band tunes of the 1940s and 1950s.
Expect to hear timeless hits made famous by Glenn Miller Orchestra, "King of Swing" Benny Goodman and more.
Generation II is an outgrowth of the Bill Bergeron Band; some of the present members hail from River Falls and Ellsworth and used to play in that band.
For a couple decades the 17-piece Generation II has been filling the region's ballrooms, hotels, casinos, private parties, nightclubs, conventions and concert halls.
What makes this concert special is there is no charge to attend. The performance is courtesy of the Red Wing Arts Association's summer music series.
