Hear ye, hear ye!

Kevin Funk plays the King and Chelsea Indrehus plays the Queen in the Phoenix Theatre production of "Cinderella."

Phoenix Theatre presents Red Wing's version of the Tony award-winning Roger's and Hammerstein's musical “Cinderella.”

The summer production combines a familiar tale with some new twists with help of director Sean Dowse, vocal director Dawn Conroy and orchestra director Robert Schmitke.

Catch the show at 7 p.m. July 10-12, 18-19 or 2 p.m. July 20.

"There is the same story line that we all know and love, but what makes this version great is that it has humor for all audience members. It also adds more depth and life to the characters,” said Mikayla Cota, who plays the Footman. “You end up loving so many more characters than just Cinderella."

This version emphasizes the importance of Cinderella (Michelle Poncelet) going after her dreams and gaining her independence from underneath the thumb of her stepmother.

“You don't see the princess waiting around and hoping for the prince to come on his white horse and save her,” Cota said. “The fact that she falls in love and marries Prince Charming (Andrew Kreye) is just an added bonus."

Dowse believes that this show is unlike other versions because, "It is about the liberation of a person. Our Cinderella doesn't need the prince. She is given hope by the Fairy Godmother who assures her that she can be her own person."

The cast also includes Kevin Funk, Chelsea Indrehus, Therese Thompson, Rickeshia Clark, Sarah Kiczula, Eve Stone, Foster Johnson, Paul O'Connell, Molly Cyr, Caleb Overlander, Kelsey Lappegaard, Caludia Bonnie, Ben Gunhus, Leanne Overlander, Cece Smith, Holly Lenz, Leanne Overlander, Hannah Gunhus, Ashliegh Overlander, Amelia Reinitz, Haley Pritchard, Ashlyn Daly, Darcy Gunhus, Tommy Keller, Jessie Berg, Sadie Blanchette, Susi Boe, Allison Callstrom, Robert Hoffman, Jordan Munson, Jo Poncelet, Anna Pritchard, Gina Pritchard, Tori Pritchard and Tori Miller.

Prior to finale performance July 20, there will be a free crown/tiara making session at ArtReach, 112 Bush St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Prince Rupert and Cinderella will greet crown-wearers for photographs in the Sheldon lobby prior to the matinee showing.
