Volksfest boasts big name country singers

Goodhue’s Volksfest is the unofficial kick-off to a summer full of small-town community celebrations and lots of live outdoor music – and this year is no exception.

The musical lineup for the next weekend’s notoriously good street-dance yielding festival just might knock the boots off any country music lover.

Operated in part by the Goodhue Jaycees the annual street dance has included an impressive list of top-notch musicians including Sawyer Brown, Craig Morgan and Trace Adkins.

Friday night’s show includes American country music duo Trailer Choir.

Vocalists Mark Fortney and Vinny Hickerson, known as Butter and Big Vinny, are building off their recent success as Show Dog Universal recording artists with hit songs "Rockin the Beer Gut" "Rollin Through The Sunshine" and "Off The Hillbilly Hook."

Local country group Lost Highway will also perform for Friday night’s street dance – fresh off their CD release party for their sophomore album “This Feels Good.”

Lead singer Jesse Steberg is joined by band members Matthew Schwake on rhythm guitar and vocals; Nick Champeau on lead guitar and vocals; Trent Baarspul on keys, guitar, acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle and vocals; Tim Paulson on bass and vocals; and Aaron Seevers on drums.

Saturday evening’s music includes a trifecta of some of country music’s finest.

The multi-platinum selling musician Joe Diffie performs, followed by American country folk-rock band Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and then country music superstar Tracy Lawrence rounds out an evening concluded with fireworks.

Hear classic songs like the 1987 hits “Fishin’ In the Dark” and “Baby’s Got a Hold on Me” from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Original band members Jeff Hanna on vocals and guitar alongside Jimmie Fadden on drums, harmonica and vocals will be joined by Bob Carpener on keyboards, accordion and vocals; and John McEuen on banjo, fiddle, guitar and mandolin.

Lawrence released a new record “Headlights, Taillights and Radios” last summer – marking his first album in five years. His recognizable voice earned him multi-platinum CMA and ACM awards with songs such as “Paint Me a Birmingham,” “Time Marches On,” “Alibis,” and “Find Out Who Your Friends Are.” The entertainer has enjoyed 22 songs on the Billboard top 10 charts with 18 No. 1 singles, selling more than 13 million albums.
