Delve into Sheldon Theatre history, inside and out

The “Explore Your Sheldon” open house to celebrate the 25th anniversary season offers a full schedule. The free event runs 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday Sept. 28 and invites people to explore Red Wing’s “jewel box” as they learn about the Sheldon Theatre’s history, architecture and inner workings.

Open for touring

See areas of the Sheldon Theatre rarely seen by the public.

The tour route throughout the open house will be staffed with staff, volunteers, Friends of the Sheldon and Sheldon Board members. They will provide insight to the theater and answer questions. Lighting, sound, costume and make-up demonstrations will be along the tour route.

Over stage

The “Up and Over tour” is a steep climb through the rafters of the Sheldon. Times are 2:30, 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. Space is limited; call the Sheldon box office at 651-388-8700 for availability.

• Get a taste of the show a New York Times reviewer called "The best show I have seen, ‘Trick Boxing,’ a screwball play about crime and boxing that features rapid-fire dialogue and bursts of whimsy." The Minneapolis Star Tribune wrote, “Dancers/choreographers Brian Sostek and Megan McClellan are the irresistible delights of the evening."

Sossy Mechanics presents a 15-minute showcase at 2:45, 3:45 and 4:25 p.m. of the upcoming production . This is a physical comedy told through rapid-fire dialogue, high-energy dance numbers, ridiculous puppetry, true love and, of course, boxing.

The full “Trick Boxing” show will be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday Oct. 5.

• Tom Erickson plays selections on the Kilgen pipe organ at 3:15 and 4:15 p.m. The organ has more than 1,000 pipes and many other features. A CD sampling of Tom’s music is available for purchase in the lobby.

• At 5:15 p.m., winners of the door prizes will be announced.
