LETTER: Ring bells to help Salvation Army help others
To the Editor:
2016 marks the 125th anniversary of the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle. We will start ringing bells Wednesday, Nov. 23, and every Friday and Saturday until Christmas Eve Day.
We are thankful for volunteers from all three Kiwanis clubs, Key club, Rotary and Lions clubs, the Sheriff's Posse, churches, and members of the community and surrounding area. The Salvation Army is also grateful to both Econo Food stores and Wal-Mart for letting us ring at their businesses.
Money raised by our local service unit is used year-round to provide temporary emergency assistance to both residents of Goodhue County and non-residents. Just like Captain McFee in 1891, we can all make a difference in the lives of those in need either by donating when we see a Red Kettle or by helping to staff a Christmas Kettle.
We need more volunteers to reach our goal. We welcome all ages. Please call Sam Wunderlich at 507-330-1472 or me at 651-388-9270 if you can volunteer.
Nadine Holbert serves on the Salvation Army Board of Goodhue County.
