Former Goodhue football coach Clair Austin was hired to fill the same job at Ellsworth and charged with reviving a moribund program. Since making the playoffs in 2007, the Panthers are 2-25 and they endured a 23-game losing streak.
Goodhue got off to a strong start against fourth-ranked Wabasha-Kellogg, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Then the floodgates opened for Wabasha-Kellogg in the Section 1A East playoff game. The Falcons scored six runs in the bottom half of the inning and never let up on Thursday in Wabasha.
Emily Ryan drove in Anne Lodermeier with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to lead Goodhue to a 6-5 victory over host Faribault Academies; however, the Wildcats followed that up with an 11-1 loss to United South Central and a 8-4 rain-shortened loss to Wabasha-Kellogg.
