As a Red Wing homeowner I for one am very grateful to the people working in the Public Works Department for the fine job they have been doing pickup up all the broken branches and other debris resulting from the destructive snow storm that hit Red Wing and the surrounding area May 1 and 2.
In the past two years, Florence and Hay Creek townships and the city of Red Wing have taken advantage of the Goodhue County moratorium on frac sand mines to strengthen local comprehensive plans and ordinances to protect their environments.
It is to our understanding that the Pierce County Building Committee wants to cut down the landmark northern red oak trees in front of the historical Pierce County Courthouse that we believe were planted when the Courthouse was built. It is also in the plans to remove the retaining wall because the committee claims it is a safety issue.
Again, the Republican Eagle does a story about the high school musical (which is nice) but again does not mention the students behind the scenes that put in so much hard work and never get any recognition (R-E, May 4).
