ST. PAUL -- A national Republican wave washed two Minnesota congressmen out of their committee chairmanships and one of them was facing even higher water that threatened his Washington job, if the GOP controls the U.S. House as news organizations predicted.
In response to Paul Droto’s letter (R-E Oct. 23), yes, Paul, we remember how the present “Democratic regime” has put us in trillion dollars of debt, more than the total government debt accumulated from the time of George Washington, through George Bush.

In the coming weeks, Congress will be reviewing a national energy tax known as “cap and trade,” legislation proposed by the president that will attempt to raise federal revenue and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This weekend’s fishing opener commemorates an unofficial holiday in which many of Minnesota’s 1.1 million anglers travel to their favorite lake to participate in one of our state’s great traditions.
