Without Kassidy Coplan and Kaleigh Owens, Red Wing had only three healthy competitors for the floor exercise Monday and was forced to take a zero for the fourth score. The result was a 136.55-111.625 loss to Farmington at the Red Wing Area Gymnastics Center.
The first time Red Wing competed against Prior Lake this year, gymnasts who began the season on junior varsity were forced into varsity roles because of injuries, and things didn't go well. The Wingers finished with one of the lowest scores in coach Beth Mayer's 20-plus year tenure.
Last season, Hennessy excelled in all four events. The Wingers lack a gymnast who's dominant in all four disciplines this season; a different girl is best at each event. Mayer considers the parity to be a plus.
