ST. PAUL -- Red Wing seniors Luke Johnson and Bryant Blahnik made the most of their final day as high school athletes. Johnson captured his first individual state title by winning the Class AA discus Saturday and Blahnik took third in the 1,600-meter run at Hamline University’s Klas Field.
The Lake City girls placed second at the Section 1A subsection meet with 152 points, finishing 28.5 points behind host Plainview-Elgin-Millville. Anna Gay provided several of the highlights Thursday as she qualified for the section meet in three individual events.
Lake City senior Kurt Brown prolonged his season by winning a pair of grueling three-set matches Thursday in the Section 1A individual tournament. He advanced to the semifinals where he'll meet St. Paul Academy and Summit School's John Hill.
