The main span for the new Highway 61 bridge here is on schedule to be floated in place, jacked up and secured by the end of the day Monday, Sept. 24.
A 61-year-old Northfield woman, Dayna Kristine Bell, has been charged with 16 counts of felony animal cruelty in connection with the deaths of many puppies and dogs in her care in September 2011. Bell is the owner and operator of Bells Kennels in Sciota Township, Dakota County.
A 23-year-old Hampton man, Adam Michael Stein, died as he walked along Highway 61 at 220th Street early Sunday morning. Stein was walking southbound when he was struck by a pick-up truck driven by Sai Kao Yang, 76, St. Paul. Neither Yang nor Pa Vang, 58, a passenger in the truck, was injured. Stein was pronounced dead at the scene.
Highway 61 motorists traveling through Hastings may experience delays beginning June 8 when the roadway is reduced to a single lane between Spiral Bridge Road, near Hub’s Landing, and Third Street in downtown Hastings.
