Things went so well that the team lingered around Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse, Wis., for an hour after it finished. "None of the kids wanted to leave," Plum City coach Rick Stewart said. "It was one of those great moments in high school sports for the athletes and the coaches."
Cole Carroll, a sophomore, pitched parts of two previous games this season and struggled with control; however, he threw a stellar game Tuesday in Plum City. Carroll earned the complete-game win, struck out 11 and surrendered just three hits. He also walked four Blue Devils.
The Elmwood-Plum City girls finished second out of nine teams at the Dunn-St. Croix Conference track meet with 114 points. Mondovi was the only school to tally more points Tuesday, finishing with 159.5.
