As the senior Republican on the U.S. House and Education and Labor Committee, I have spent much of the past week in committee meetings reviewing the 1,018-page health care bill introduced Tuesday by House Democrat leadership.
To the Editor:
Congressman John Kline is hitting the franking privilege awfully hard lately. In just the past month or so I’ve received six mailings from his office — all of them gratuitously political.
U.S. Rep. John Kline was honored by the Minnesota TRiO Association for his support of low-income, first-generation, and disabled students. Minnesota TRiO is part of a federal program that provides financial assistance to students who can’t afford higher education.
Michael Osskopp’s letter to the editor is extremely misleading. It would be a biased and inaccurately revisionist version of history to pretend that U.S. Rep. John Kline has a perfect track record when it comes to meeting with constituents (R-E, June 12).
While Congressman John Kline works at the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., and I work at the state Capitol in St. Paul, we share the common thread of proudly representing Minnesotans. We also share the belief that contact with our constituents is fundamental to our representation.
For six years, Congressman John Kline has made it a priority to meet with constituents and discuss issues important to them. Readers should be wary of commentary that attacks Kline on one hand and promotes a candidate’s fundraising Web site on the other (R-E, June 4).
