Bimonthly dental clinics offered PressPass

The Pierce County Public Health Department offers a preventive dental clinic twice a month for residents age 2-18. This may include a dental exam, cleaning, fluoride treatments, X-rays and sealants.

PHS to participate in booster seat give-away PressPass

To coincide with Minnesota’s enhanced child restraint law, which took effect July 1, Goodhue County Public Health received a child passenger safety grant on behalf of AAA Minnesota/Iowa. With the grant, Goodhue County Public Health will participate in a booster seat give-away taking place from 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Goodhue County Public Health building, 512 W. Sixth St. PHS will provide child passenger safety education to parents and caregivers and distribute booster seats to families who qualify financially.

We’ve all heard the parenting advice: “Don’t fight in front of the kids.” While this is great advice, most parents will find that over the many years of raising children it is much easier said than done. Conflict is a part of life, and it’s more important how you resolve it than pretending it doesn’t exist. Conflicts can give you a chance to teach your children how to discuss and work out problems without getting into a heated argument, fighting or putting your child in the middle.

Give your college students a spending plan PressPass

When asked how to make good decisions with money, I start by taking a look at spending — and now is the time to talk with them about money management skills. Even though we may not always consciously ask ourselves questions about money, every spending decision involves questions: What are the options? What are the pros and cons of each option? Which option will I choose? Will I choose that option in the future?

Treating kids with mental illness PressPass

Workshop explores treating kids with mental health issues NAMI Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Human Services have teamed up to provide parent education on evidence-based practices in children’s mental health. This training will discuss common behaviors in children, how to document those behaviors, the state diagnostic assessment tool and practices that have been shown to be effective with children and adolescents.

Parenting class offered at Concordia PressPass
