Golden Quill Letter: Opening MNGL will cost taxpayers plenty
Golden Quill winner: This isn’t a letter against Red Wing Municipal Golf Corp. and its pursuit to run Mississippi National. They are hardworking, passionate supporters and, if passion could solve this problem, they would be the solution. Unfortunately, the only thing that will solve this problem is money.

Commentary: Help support an alternative to war spending
When you are 65, 10 years is a big part of one’s life. I am now looking back at the last 10 years of my life, a life that took a huge turnabout Feb. 15, 2003, and most definitely March 20, 2003 when the Iraq War started. I reread what I had written March 17, 2003, which this newspaper published a few days later. I would like you to reminisce too. Here is what the R-E published under the headline “Has the U.S. exhausted diplomatic means?”

Have you ever tried Patrick O’Neil’s chili with one of Bill Hanisch’s frosted cinnamon rolls? We did last Saturday, March 16, at the Hay Creek Valley Campground (Dressen’s Saloon) at a fundraiser for the nonprofit Save the Bluffs organization.

Letter: Save tax dollars: Say yes to RWMG Corp.
When I ran for Red Wing City Council, one of my goals was to increase meaningful communication between the council and residents. Another was to keep a watchful eye on spending and look for the best deal for taxpayers. With those goals in mind, I want to make sure residents understand what Mississippi National Golf Course is costing us.

LETTER: District must address leaves, which are covered by contracts
First, FMLA was never part of the discussion. Why you made that the initial focus of your editorial makes me think you did not watch the entire discussion during the March 4 School Board meeting.

LETTER: Why won't House bill have moratorium?
I’d like to assure Rep. Kelly I don’t need him apologizing to anyone for me (R-E, March 9). I certainly didn't mean only the Albrechts when I wrote “Anyone who thinks all of these (sand) areas are adequately regulated is undereducated.” I meant anyone.

Letter:Protect your marvelous county
My father, George Hulstrand Sr., grew up in Leon Township, Goodhue County, and Spring Garden Lutheran Church. As a child, we used to come down at least four times a year from Willmar to visit relatives. I always marveled at how beautiful the area was.
