9/19/2012: Funeral set for Ellsworth man who died in construction accident
A funeral service for Joseph C. Janisch, rural Ellsworth, who died early Monday, Sept. 17th in a construction accident along I-94 near Menomonie, is set for 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Ellsworth. Janisch, a father of four, was a dairy farmer and avid hunter and fisherman.

But now, with all of the animals — save for a few horses — gone, the family will begin harvesting a new kind of crop: Minnesota wine.

Last year was generally a good year for Minnesota’s organic crop producers, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture reported. In 2011, average and median net farm income for crop farms increased from the year before. In addition, key financial measures, including rate of return on assets, fell in “the acceptable strong range,” the MDA said.
