Marvin Bang, 91, died Sunday, March 17, at his home in Featherstone Township, of congestive heart failure.
Marvin Bang, 91, died Sunday, March 17, at his home in Featherstone Township, of congestive heart failure.
He was born March 28, 1921, to Maynard and Emma (Schrimpf) Bang. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1939. He farmed on the family farm. On Nov. 7, 1948, he married Norma Jagusch. She died Dec. 12, 2001. In the 1940s and '50s, he played amateur baseball for several area teams, including the Red Wing Aces. He also served as Featherstone Township clerk for 28 years and was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his children, Carl and Kathy of Featherstone, Karen (Dan) Woodard of River Falls, and Betty of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Ed Woodard, Daisy (Seth) Kuhn, and Peter King; a sister, Hazel Brown of Edina; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; one sister, Laverne Grasmoen Olson; and his brother, Harold.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Visitation will be for 1 hour prior to the service. The family prefers memorials sent to St. Paul's Church, Hope Cemetery, or Mayo Red Wing Hospice.
