Irene Voigt, 79

In spite of the trials the Lord permitted to come upon her, the Holy Spirit preserved her faith and on March 18, 2013, Jesus delivered Irene Ila Voigt from this vale of tears to the joy and peace of life with her Savior in heaven.

Irene Ila Voigt (nee Manthe) was born March 15, 1934, in rural Pemberton, Minn., to Emil A. and M. Mildred Manthe (nee Blaisdell) at their home.

She attended Pemberton Public School for 10 years before transferring to Dr. Martin Luther High School and College. She graduated from high school in 1952 and attended college there for 1 year and one session of summer school. Irene then taught school for 1 year at St. Bartholomew's in Kawkawlin, Mich.

While attending college, she met and fell in love with Wally R. Voigt. They were married Aug. 3, 1954, in Alma City, Minn. God granted them a happy life and blessed them with five children, all of Red Wing, Minn.: Bruce (Beth), James "Jim" (Jamie), Charles "Chuck," John "A.J." (Sara) Voigt, and Ruth Fitschen (Ralph).

She taught school, raised five children with her husband, worked at Durkee Atwood for 7 years, and was a sales representative for Avon for over 20 years. Irene treasured her faith and remained a lifelong Christian. She was a charter member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church here in Red Wing, regularly receiving the life-giving spiritual nourishment of the Gospel in Word and Sacrament and sharing in the blessing of Christian fellowship. Her warm smile and kind ways will always be remembered as a fruit of her faith. Irene taught Sunday school, sang in the choir for many years, and was a member of the Berean's Women's Group. Her hobbies included stamping, making homemade cards, and crocheting and knitting afghans and gifts for many family members and friends. Irene immensely enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In spite of the trials the Lord permitted to come upon her, the Holy Spirit preserved her faith and on March 18, 2013, Jesus delivered her from this vale of tears to the joy and peace of life with her Savior in heaven. Her earthly days were 79 years, 3 days. Her heavenly days are forever!

Irene's loved ones still remaining in their time of grace include her husband, Wally; four children and their spouses; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Irene was preceded in death by one son, Charles "Chuck" Voigt; her parents; brother Paul Manthe; sister Loretta Schlicht; and infant brother Eugene Manthe.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church with Rev. David Baker officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing, and 1 hour prior to the service at church.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Memorials are preferred to Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church or Mayo Clinic Health Systems Red Wing Hospice.
