Bertha Julia Santelman, 104, of Red Wing, died Monday, Feb. 25,at Loving Residence in Red Wing where she has resided for the last 3-1/2 years.

Bertha Julia Santelman, 104, of Red Wing, died Monday, Feb. 25,at Loving Residence in Red Wing where she has resided for the last 3-1/2 years.

She was born Feb. 3, 1909, in Red Wing, the daughter of Adolph and Elizabeth (Risse) Stark. She was a 1927 graduate of Red Wing Central High School and graduated in 1928 from Red Wing Teachers College. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Pine Island and Hay Creek for a couple of years. On June 14, 1932, she married Clarence Santelman. They farmed in Hay Creek and Welch until retiring in 1969 and moving into Red Wing in 1977. Clarence died March 26, 1979. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and reading.

She is survived by her children, Edward (Rae) Santelman of Red Wing, Wilmer "Bill" (Kathy) Santelman of Red Wing, and Judy Swanson of South Saint Paul; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Mary Ann) Stark of Caledonia, Minn.; several nieces and nephews; and the great staff at Loving Residence.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; three brothers, Lawrence, Fritz, and Henry Stark; three sisters, Patty Winblad, Cecelia Rodman, and Dorothy Weseman; son-in-law, Donald Swanson; and grandson Patrick Santelman.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Pastoral Minister Suzanne Belongia will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the Church of St. Joseph.
