Katherine Sargent Morrow, 75, Red Wing, died at her home Thursday, Feb. 21.

Katherine Sargent Morrow, 75, Red Wing, died at her home Thursday, Feb. 21.

She was born Aug. 14, 1937, in Austin, Minn., the daughter of Dr. James and Ruth (Sargent) Morrow. She attended Michael Dowling School for Crippled Children where she took daily sessions of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, in addition to her academic work. She traveled to Washington D.C. and California for continued treatment during the 7th and 8th grades and continued her education with home teachers. She returned to Red Wing and completed 4 years of high school, graduating in 1955 with the amazing record of perfect attendance. Katherine attended 1 year at Macalester College and 1 year at Augsburg College.

Katherine began weaving in 1950 at the suggestion of Marge Vogel who lent her a small table loom. During high school, she took correspondence courses in weaving and earned a professional handweaver's certificate. She won national awards for her weaving and had created suits, bedspreads, baby blankets, and placemats.

Katherine loved attending plays and musicals. Katherine joined the Presbyterian Church in 1951. She was a member of the Morning Circle which was her primary social outlet, and she had been a deacon and church elder in the past. She had a 50-year member plaque of which she was very proud. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood since 1983. Katherine was very proud to be a member of her Chapter P Sisterhood and believed wholeheartedly in the organization. She worried about what the future held as her dream was to remain in her home. She had a dependable and committed group of caregivers who will miss her very much.

She is survived by one cousin, Anne Morrow; caregivers, Mary Guenther, Tina Jacobson, Sara Madden, Charity Johnson, Jane Nelson, Linda Gade, and Kathy Luebker; PEO sisters; and many friends.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, at First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Minn. Visitation will be for 1 hour prior to the service at church. Memorials are preferred to Mayo Hospice, Red Wing or the donor's choice.

Arrangements are by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.

I have many found memories of Katherine and her wonderful mother Ruth. I even remember Mrs. Sargent. They were good people, kind, and very patient with all the neighbor children!
