Jean A. McManimon, 77, of La Crosse, Wis., passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Hillview Healthcare Center.

Jean A. McManimon, 77, of La Crosse, Wis., passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, at the Hillview Healthcare Center.

She was born March 10, 1935, in Red Wing, Minn., to Otto and Laura (Alms) Mandelkow, and graduated from Goodhue High School. She then attended St. Marys School of Nursing in Rochester where she received her degree in nursing. Following her graduation she worked at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester as a R.N. for several years until returning to Red Wing where she worked at the Interstate Clinic and later at St. John's Hospital.

On Sept. 21, 1968, she married Sylvester "Saul" McManimon in Red Wing and he preceded her in death on June 16, 1998. Jean had worked as an R.N. at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse for many years until her retirement. Since 1998, Jean had volunteered at the Safe Paths Program at Franciscan-Skemp in La Crosse until she was unable to continue due to ill health.

Jean is survived by a sister, Eileen Gernentz of Red Wing; a brother, Maurice (Donna) Alms of Red Wing; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband, "Saul," she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Milton Mandelkow; a sister-in-law, Marion Mandelkow; and a brother-in-law, Alden Gernentz.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, 2720 S. 26th St., La Crosse, with Rev. Jonathan Rimmert officiating. Entombment will follow in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum, Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the church on Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to M.C.H.S. Hospice Program, Grace Ev. Lutheran Church, or the Safe Path domestic abuse program through the Franciscan Skemp Foundation.
