Harlyn G. Strusz, age 83, of Goodhue, died on Monday, Feb. 4, at his home.
Harlyn G. Strusz, age 83, of Goodhue, died on Monday, Feb. 4, at his home.
He was born on May 18, 1929, in Vasa Township, Goodhue County, the son of George and Anna (Kunde) Strusz. He attended school until the eighth grade and then farmed the family farm. He enjoyed dancing and met his future wife, Hertha Schumacher, on one of her many trips to the dance hall. On Oct. 21, 1967, they were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Goodhue, where they settled down and continued to farm and raise their family.
Harlyn enjoyed farming; playing cards, especially euchre; cooking; fixing things; reading the newspaper; and going for rides around the farm on the golf cart. He participated in the Senior Citizens Group in Goodhue.
Harlyn is survived by his sons, Hilbert (Paula Basham) and Howard, both of Goodhue; sisters, Ella (Donald) Hadler of Goodhue, Wildonna Bang of Champlain; half-brother, Richard Kunde; nieces and nephews.
Harlyn was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Hertha, who died on Sept. 17, 2009; brother, Raulo Strusz.
Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with Pastor Andy Krause officiating and with a visitation from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in rural Goodhue.
