Donald A. Hood: 1945 - 2012.
Donald A. Hood, 67, Denver, Colo., passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, Dec. 30.
Dr. Hood served the U.S. military as chief of eye services in the diplomatic mission in Bangkok, Thailand, from 1970-72 and later as chief of optometry at Fitzsimons Army Reserve until his retirement. His Aurora private optometry practice, Vision Care Specialist, grew to be the largest in the region. His initiatives revolutionized practice for both optometry and ophthalmology, and he established the first medical ESOP (employee-owned practice) in the nation. He was an avid sportsman in the wild and on the golf course.
Don is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia Flueger Hood; their two children, both of Denver, Chelsey (Ben) Russell and Cayman Hood; and one granddaughter, Hayden Elaine Russell.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
