Carol Ann Castner, 67, Red Wing, died Sunday, Jan. 20, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Red Wing.
She was born April 24, 1945, in Red Wing, the daughter of Walter and Beatrice (McNeil) Engeldinger. She attended high school at the Villa Maria, graduating in 1963. She then attended St. Francis School of Nursing and Viterbo University, both in La Crosse, Wis., receiving her diploma in nursing in 1966. She married Stephen C. Castner on April 12, 1969, in Red Wing. She worked at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse and St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul before returning to Red Wing where she worked at St. John's Hospital. She then became a director of nursing in long-term care. She finished her career at Mayo Health System in Lake City as the director of nursing until her retirement in 2007.
Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting and school events. She and Steve enjoyed many trips through the years.
Survivors include her loving husband of 43 years, Stephen; one daughter, Stefanie (Jason) Binner, and son, Chris Castner, all of Red Wing; two grandchildren, Coby and Madison Castner of Red Wing; two sisters, Susan (Gary) Grote of Prior Lake and Laurie Engeldinger of Red Wing; two nephews, Mark (Karen) Castner of Rosemount and John (Kris) Castner of Red Wing; many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Fernando Ortega officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Last Hope.
