Gladys Dorothy Bignell, 86, of Arkansaw, Wis., died Monday, Jan. 7, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Menomonie, Wis.

Gladys Dorothy Bignell, 86, of Arkansaw, Wis., died Monday, Jan. 7, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Menomonie, Wis.

She was born Feb. 27, 1926, in Frankfort Township, Pepin County, Wis., daughter of Edward and Winnie Mae Lincolnfelter Claflin. She attended West Frankfort School and Arkansaw High School. Following school, Gladys worked as a housekeeper, waitressed at the Durand Café, and worked at the Durand Canning Factory. On Nov. 20, 1950, she married Edison Bignell at the RLDS parsonage in Porcupine. They farmed in Frankfort and Waterville Townships. Edison died Nov. 11, 1986. Gladys spent the last 4 years at Potter’s Country Home. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, tending to her flower garden, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Gary (June) Bignell of Arkansaw, Gene (Carol) Bignell of Red Wing, Minn., Linda (Karl) Moritz of Red Wing, Dennis Bignell of Arkansaw, Michael (Lona) Bignell of Red Wing, Scott (Robin) Bignell of Lake City, Minn.; five grandchildren, April Bignell, Melissa and Amanda Moritz, Matthew and Daniel Bignell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Winnie Lincolnfelter Claflin; husband, Edison Bignell; sisters, Ethel Lauer and Mabel Bignell.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the Community of Christ Church in Arkansaw. Pastor Dan Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the Porcupine Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
