Dorothy Mae Alberta Matthees, age 90, of Zumbrota, died on Saturday, Jan. 5, at Zumbrota Health Services.

Dorothy Mae Alberta Matthees, age 90, of Zumbrota, died on Saturday, Jan. 5, at Zumbrota Health Services.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1922, in Red Wing, the daughter of Gust and Minnie (Oelkers) Ehlen. On Dec. 24, 1922, Dorothy was baptized at her home by Pastor J.C. Meyers. Her sponsors were Bertha Ehlen and Bertha Germann. On April 5, 1936, she was confirmed by Pastor H. Hardt at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hay Creek. On Sept. 7, 1940, Dorothy was married to Eldon Matthees by Pastor H. Hardt at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in the Zumbrota and Goodhue areas. In 1991, they moved to Zumbrota. Dorothy worked as an interior decorator for many years.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota where she was active in Ladies Aid and also in the Goodhue Lionesses. Dorothy enjoyed fishing, traveling, and playing cards, especially with her children and grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Curtis (Cindy Odman) Matthees of Red Wing; daughters, Connie (Mark) Flom of Kenyon, Mary Kluver of Onalaska, Wis. Pat (Don) Ryan of Stewartville, Denise (Mark) Stabel of Keystone Heights, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister-in-law, Bernice Ehlen.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Matthees, who died on Dec. 11, 2001; parents; and brother, Willard Ehlen.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Wayne Schoch officiating. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and for 1 hour prior to the service at church. Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church.
