Elaine Ruth Knopp, 86, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, at Osceola Medical Center in Osceola, Wis.
Elaine Ruth Knopp, 86, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, at Osceola Medical Center in Osceola, Wis.
She was born on July 8, 1926, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Leonard and Vivian (Denton) Moore. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1944 and then moved to Winona in 1946. On Feb. 22, 1952, she married Samuel Knopp in Minneapolis. They lived in Winona where she attended Winona State University, graduating in 1965. For many years, she taught at Sunnyside Elementary School in Red Wing until her retirement.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She also volunteered as a pink lady at St. John's Hospital and was a 40-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as president. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and going up to the cabin at Balsam Lake.
Survivors include three children, David (Brenda Headington) Becker of Winona, Mary (Reg) Pelowski of Balsam Lake, Wis., and Sam (Candi) Knopp of Lakewood, Colo.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel; one son, Steve; one brother, Owen Moore; and one sister, Shirley Ward.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Strunk officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
