Dolores Katherine Stemmann, 90, of Red Wing, died Monday, Dec. 24, at her home.

Dolores Katherine Stemmann, 90, of Red Wing, died Monday, Dec. 24, at her home.

She was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Featherstone Township, to Fred and Luella (Mahler) Alms. She grew up on the family farm and attended country and parochial schools. As a young woman, she worked at Red Wing Pottery, where she hand-painted dinnerware. On Oct. 18, 1945, she was united in marriage to Elmer Stemmann at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Belvidere. They farmed for 4 years near Goodhue and then purchased a farm in Belvidere Township in 1949. Elmer died on Jan. 27, 1998. Dolores moved to Red Wing in 1999, where she has since resided at the Downtown Plaza.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, where she was involved in its ladies aid, and later became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. She and Elmer enjoyed camping with their camping club and also traveling. Dolores loved gardening, crafts, and sewing. She enjoyed being with her friends at the Plaza, playing cards, dinners, bus trips, and making cards. The joy of her life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Duane (Pat) Stemmann of Belvidere Township; four grandchildren, Sheila (Jerry) Stehr of rural Goodhue, Cory (Jolene) Stemmann of rural Red Wing, Andy (Chris) Stemmann of rural Red Wing, and Trisha (Jesse) Hadler of rural Lake City; seven great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Tally, Trent, Tyson, Charlie, Logan, and Everett.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; a son, Dennis; and her brother, Luvern Alms.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at St. John's Lutheran Church, with Reverend Loren Lucht officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Belvidere. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to donor's choice.
