Marion Viola Anderson Steberg, passed away on Oct. 30, at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, Minn., at the age of 92.
Marion Viola Anderson Steberg, passed away on Oct. 30, at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, Minn., at the age of 92.
She was born August 4, 1920 at Lunds Valley, N.D. to Anfin and Bertina (Lee) Anderson. Marion married Manton Steberg on June 21, 1942, at the First English Lutheran Church in Faribault, Minn. They were lifelong residents of Zumbrota, Minn. and celebrated 70 years of marriage this year.
Marion worked at both the Klug and Lee Pharmacies in Zumbrota for many years. She possessed a talent for needlework and crafts, including knitting Norwegian sweaters and stitching quilts for her grandchildren. Marion relished trips with her family to Anderson family reunions in various destinations including: Colorado, Washington, North Dakota, Minneapolis, Wyoming, and Banff, Canada.
Retirement was long and enjoyable for both Manton and Marion. Marion enjoyed traveling with Manton to Austria in 1978 and Scandinavia in 1982 where the Polka Dots performed. They also had trips with lifelong friends to Hawaii and Florida. Manton continued playing with the Polka Dots until 2008. Marion was his constant companion to dance jobs in a four state area and locally. They were able to attend the 60th anniversary celebration of the Polka Dots at Grandpa's Garage on Oct. 4, 2009. They had enjoyed dancing to other groups, especially big name bands like Guy Lombardo.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Anfin and Bertina (Lee) Anderson; seven sisters: Josie Holte, Burnette Fjeran, Stella Hegland, Alma Iverson, Olga Evans, Baby Olga, Elizabeth Nickerson, Ruth Almli, and Marion's twin brother, Mylo Anderson.
Marion is survived by her husband, Manton; three children: Marvin of St. Paul, Minn., Garry (Edy Zibbel) of Welch, Minn., and Julie (Michael) Hanson of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; brother Arnes "Ray" (Lorraine) Anderson of Rosemont, Minn.; two granddaughters: Michele Hanson and Brit (John) Bending; four great-grandchildren: Abigail, Kirsten, Connor and Lucas.
She was a very caring, loving and generous mother, sister and grandmother. Marion is particularly remembered by her granddaughters for her sense of style and grace.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the Mahn Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, Minn., with the Pastor Paul Reppe officiating. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at a later date at Lands Lutheran Cemetery in Zumbrota.
