Helen Ruth Grote, 90, of Red Wing, died Monday, Sept. 10, at Loving Residence.
Helen Ruth Grote, 90, of Red Wing, died Monday, Sept. 10, at Loving Residence.
She was born on Dec. 22, 1921, in Arlington, Minn., to Reinhard and Caroline (Koenig) Wolter. She graduated from Arlington High School and then attended St. John's Nursing School in Red Wing, graduating in 1944. She then continued on as an instructor and nurse there until 1952. On May 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to Virgil Grote at St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac. They lived in Hay Creek Township where they farmed. Virgil died on Oct. 25, 1996.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac, where she was a past member of Ladies Aid and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed old-time dancing, going for walks, and being with her grandchildren,
Survivors include two children, Carolyn Sue (Gordon) Boldt and Roger (Brenda) Grote, all of Red Wing; four grandchildren, Jacob (Erica) Boldt of Hastings, Katrina (Joshua) Nelson of Ellsworth AFB, S.D., Haley and Kasey Grote of Red Wing; two great-grandchildren, Garrett and Carter Boldt; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers and two sisters.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Frontenac, with Reverend Christopher Hoppe officiating. Burial will be in the Frontenac Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and at the church for 1 hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
